Virtual Health Benefits Include Mental Health Services

Virtual Health Benefits Include Mental Health Services: Happy Holidays!

The holidays, as exciting as they are, can also be extremely taxing on your mental and emotional health. Let’s face it… family gatherings can be a difficult venture for anyone. It’s no wonder the holiday season is the hospital’s busiest time. In order to prevent major hospital-visit-inducing accidents, take time to prioritize your mental health.

There are many stressors that come up during these holiday months, that aren’t always present in everyday life. For example, there’s usually a greater financial burden to travel, gift, and host. There may be an overwhelming amount of social gatherings, events, and travel time that limit your ability to care for yourself. Many people also begin to reflect on their loved ones that they have lost during these times.

Taking advantage of your mental health benefits is important to ensuring your mental health remains top of mind. With the rise in virtual care due to COVID, the access to care and the quality of care has increased immensely. Patient care has taken on a whole new role in 2020.

With all the stressors the holidays bring about, it’s important to care for yourself. Here are a few tips to help.

Virtual Health Benefits Include Mental Health Services

With all the stressors the holidays bring about, it’s important to care for yourself. Here are a few tips to help.

Go to Therapy

The holiday season can be overwhelmingly busy, be sure you continue to schedule therapy appointments or begin scheduling them now. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, 40% of adults are riddled with social anxiety around holidays.

While you may not want to, or be able to, go into in-person therapy visits, there are plenty of virtual doctors that can be extremely helpful. Virtual visits can be just as productive as in-person visits. At SBMA, our virtual health benefits include behavioral health and therapy visits. This gives you the opportunity to talk to a therapist anytime.

Practice Mindfulness

We all know the holidays can be hectic. Be sure to practice mindfulness, whether that’s through yoga, breathwork, or any other mindfulness practice to ease your anxiety. There are many online resources and guided meditations that can help make it simple to stay mindful.

Enjoy in Moderation

Drinking alcohol and eating poorly can exacerbate anxiety and depression. While you can still have fun and enjoy everything about the holidays, try to take things in moderation.

Mental illness is challenging year-round, but it can be particularly challenging during the holidays. Be sure to keep your mental health in mind as we continue through the holiday season. Ensure you have the health insurance you need to stay safe and healthy. Check out SBMA’s virtual benefits and telehealth services, to stay on top of your mental health in real-time!
